-December Quote- Another trend that has continued unabated…is the flight to quality, representative of an overall maturation of the market as well as the increasing role of pre-compliance activity in the voluntary markets. This is demonstrated in the reported volume of CCAR and Gold Standard credits, which account for 58% of the volumes tracked. – New Carbon Finance, Voluntary Carbon Index, November 14, 2008 |

Message From the President
Dear Friends and Colleagues, As we head into the final month of 2009, I am proud of all that we have accomplished this year with our members, partners and other colleagues. In staying true to our mission, we are continuing to represent our members and their interests as we begin the transition of entity GHG emissions reporting to our sister organization, The Climate Registry. Climate change is a global issue, and the debate is moving to Washington. The Climate Registry, which covers all of North America, is a more comprehensive opportunity for members to demonstrate leadership by reporting their emissions on a broader scale and engaging in the national policy debate. Also, in 2008 we successfully launched the Climate Action Reserve to provide the registration and tracking of offset projects and their associated emission reductions from activities throughout the U.S. The Reserve has quickly established itself as the standard for high quality and integrity in the voluntary carbon market. This fall, independent reports cited the Climate Action Reserve’s carbon credits, Climate Reserve Tonnes (CRTs), as ranking in the top tier of all credits in the market and the market value has remained steady in recognition of their strong foundation. More CRTs are anticipated to be issued before the year end, with a number of projects now in the final stages of verification and registration. This year truly has been exciting and together we have accomplished much. We look forward to greater successes and achievements in 2009, and I thank each of you for your commitment to addressing climate change. On behalf of the entire team at the California Registry, I would like to wish you a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season! Sincerely, Gary Gero |

ARB Deputy Exec Officer joins next Climate Policy Conference CallThe California Registry’s next Climate Policy Conference Call will feature Air Resources Board (ARB) Deputy Executive Director Lynn Terry, who will provide an overview of the ARB scoping plan and discuss the role of California Registry members and the Climate Action Reserve. ARB released the final scoping plan for achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions outlined in AB 32, the state’s climate change mandate, on October 15. This completed a two-year drafting process since Governor Schwarzenegger signed the bill into law. The core of the blueprint proposes cutting emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, with an overall increase in renewable energy to 33 percent of the state’s power mix. To achieve these goals, the state will use a hybrid approach that combines a cap-and-trade system and direct regulation. ARB is expected to vote on the plan in December. The conference call is scheduled for Thursday, December 18 10:00am – 11:30am PST. For more information, please contact Laura Zahn at laura@caclimateregistry.org or 213.542.0298.
